Key Takeaways

In professional training and coaching, the average LinkedIn connection acceptance rate is 27.4%. Replies to the connection note average 4.2%, and replies to a message after the connection is accepted average 8.6%. Those numbers come from 806,144 connection requests sent by 471 professional training and coaching accounts between May 2025 and April 2026. Against the cross-industry averages of 28.5%, 3.0% and 10.4%, professional training and coaching is above on note replies and below on acceptance and message replies.

Professional Training & Coaching vs. the platform average

Connection-note reply4.2%3.0%+1.2 pts5th of 38

Across the 38 industries with at least 50 sending accounts, acceptance runs from 21.8% (telecommunications) to 36.5% (staffing & recruiting). Note replies run from 1.8% to 6.6%, and message replies from 7.2% to 18.9%.

What the numbers say about training and coaching outreach

This sector has the widest split of any large sample in the dataset. Professional training and coaching ranks 5th of 38 on note replies at 4.2%, well above the 3.0% cross-industry average, and 34th of 38 on message replies at 8.6%, well below the 10.4% average. That is a 29-place fall between the two measures.

Trainers and coaches respond to a connection note at a rate almost no other industry matches, and then respond to the message that follows at a rate almost no other industry undercuts. Both facts come from the same 471 accounts and 806,144 requests, so this is not two different populations behaving differently.

The strong note number does not survive into the end result. Multiply acceptance by message replies and the sector converts at about 2.4 per 100 recipients, tied with software for the weakest of the twenty largest industries, despite having the fifth-best note reply rate in the set. A good opening does not carry a campaign on its own, and this is the clearest illustration of that in the data.

If your numbers sit below these

The dataset says where an account sits, not why. From what we see in campaigns, three gaps come up most often in this sector, and they point at different problems.

Note replies under 4.2%. This sector sets one of the highest bars in the dataset, so falling under it means underperforming an audience that is unusually willing to reply. Coaches and trainers tend to answer a genuine question; a note that makes a claim instead of asking one gives up the sector’s advantage.

Message replies under 8.6%. The sector line is already 34th of 38, so a number below it is very low. This is where the sector loses what it gains, and it is the measure worth working on before anything else.

Acceptance under 27.4%. Acceptance ranks 24th of 38 here, so the door is slightly below average to begin with. A number well under the sector line usually means the list has drifted toward large training organisations rather than the individual practitioners who accept most readily.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good LinkedIn acceptance rate for coaches and trainers?

27.4% is the sector average, about a point below the 28.5% cross-industry figure, ranking 24th of 38 reported industries. Above 29% is good for this sector.

Why do trainers and coaches reply to notes but not to messages?

Professional training and coaching ranks 5th of 38 on note replies at 4.2% and 34th on message replies at 8.6%, the widest split of any large sample in the dataset. Both figures come from the same 471 accounts. The data shows the split without explaining it.

How does training and coaching compare with other industries?

It has one of the best note reply rates in the dataset and one of the worst message reply rates. End to end it converts at about 2.4 per 100 recipients, against roughly 3.0 across all industries, so the strong opening does not carry through to the result.

How this data was collected

Professional Training & Coaching is reported from 471 accounts and 806,144 connection requests sent between May 2025 and April 2026, drawn from the LinkedIn Outreach Benchmarks 2026 dataset of 13.2 million requests across 13,302 accounts. That report carries the full methodology, along with the breakdowns by sender seniority, company size and month that are not repeated here.

Two things to hold in mind while reading any of these figures. The industry is the sender’s, taken from their company profile, not the recipient’s. And only industries with at least 50 sending accounts are reported at all: below that, a single unusual account moves the average by several points, which is why some of the most extreme numbers in the full appendix are not published here.
